Join us for an immersive celebration of heritage, food, and community at the Community Comal Kick-off! This special event marks the beginning of an exciting new initiative to create a vibrant gathering space centered around cultural traditions and culinary arts at the Rancho Los Cerritos Historic Site.
Event Highlights:
- Live Cooking Demonstrations: Experience traditional Oaxacan cooking with Lupita Garcia, daughter of renowned cocinera tradicional Vicky Hernandez. Lupita will showcase recipes passed down through generations, teaching us the art of corn nixtamalization, masa preparation for tortillas, and crafting traditional dishes like mole. Vicky Hernandez has been featured in the acclaimed cookbook, The Native Mexican Kitchen: A Journey into Cuisine, Culture, and Mezcal, highlighting her deep culinary knowledge and contributions to preserving traditional Mexican cuisine.
- Hands-On Food Preparation: Participate in making authentic tortillas and savor a variety of traditional foods and beverages rooted in indigenous heritage.
