From Vacant to Vibrant: How to Create a Pop-Up Community Space with CultureHouse Online Video Class
Gain access to this 75-minute course that teaches how to use the CultureHouse placemaking framework to transform vacant storefronts into pop-up community spaces that address climate action, neighborhood health, and social justice. After years of honing their process, CultureHouse recently open-sourced it in The CultureHouse Handbook—a guide to creating a pop-up community space. The course will go through the five steps in the Handbook that CultureHouse uses to create a community pop-up: research, community engagement, design/build, operation, and impact reporting. Learnings include how to conduct initial site research, run equitable and interactive community engagement, design and build public beautiful spaces quickly and cheaply, operate community spaces that foster advocacy and belonging, and document project impacts that foster further investment. solutions. Food and Placemaking Online Video Class
Gain access to our 90-minute video workshop on good practices using local food to create vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable public spaces. Topics include placemaking at farmers markets, urban agriculture, mobile food vendors, local food policy, wayfinding, and community engagement with underserved communities. The session also covers funding mechanisms and connections between food and other sectors, such as arts, health, and education. Ryan Smolar, the initiator of PlacemakingUS and an expert on local food policy, leads the session along with special appearances by two urban farmers, a cottage food entrepreneur and an urbanist who made a short film about Farmers Markets. Learn to be a better placemaker with online courses from our partner, Placemaking.Education. Our courses cover the placemaking mindset, key principles and concepts, practical examples from experienced placemakers, and the opportunity to try your own approaches. You'll learn to think like a placemaker, identify placemaking opportunities, and understand the details of how to lead a placemaking project. Upon completion, you'll receive a personalized certificate endorsed by Town Team Movement and PlacemakingX.
